Mountainside Final Installation

Yesterday's opening was so much fun. It was meaningful for Megan and I to meet those of you that have been following this project over the last couple months, thanks.

We'll place more installation images as well as the two videos on our professional site, meganandmurraymcmillan.com, shortly.

Building the Mountain - Phase 6

Mountainside opens tonight at Purdue University's Stewart Gallery. Murray and I are also part of a Q&A panel discussion tonight at 6:30 on the current state of installation art, moderated by art historian Elizabeth Mix (in the Stewart Center, 206). The opening reception will immediately follow the discussion.

Building the Mountain - Phase 5

Working5

Down to the wire: we just finished installing the lights. Next up, a massive clean-up (goodbye sawdust) of the gallery so we can start working on the hyper-static clingy plastic.

Today will probably be the third straight 15 plus hour workday.

Building the Mountain - Phase 4

Video1test2

The big screen for video 1 is framed and ready to be wrapped tomorrow. We're testing the screen on the only DVD we've got handy. Don't ask.

Building the Mountain - Phase 3

Indytv

I found the world's coolest television at the Seeds of Hope Thrift Store in Indianapolis. It will be under the mountain with the second video playing on it. We have to use two converters to get a signal from the DVD player.

Frame

The framed mountain, which has to be moved in order to start the skinning process. In fact, we're enlisting volunteers to come to the Stewart Center Gallery at 10 am tomorrow morning (Saturday) for a communal mountain-moving party.

Framing the mountain.

Building the Mountain - Phase 1

Working1

We're at Purdue University, installing Mountainside. Doors open on Monday at 10 am. More details later. In the meantime, the track and trolley are finished. Today, we frame the mountain.

[Update: here's the announcement (pdf file).
